Sedans are being eliminated. Sports cars are next. If it ain’t an AWD blob tank, it’s irrelevant. Its so bad, the Camry has to pretend to be a sports car to remain relevant.
It will die. Just accept it now and it will hurt a little less when the ax falls.

It was a wagon once.

So performance cross overs. Think X5m/X6m, FX, SQ5, etc.

I mean... Isn’t it an AWD blob tank?

I think we’re overreacting just a bit.

It will be based on the Crosstrek not the Imprezza. Subaru will say that it will then satisfy the Forester XT crowd and the WRX hatchback crowd at the same time.

WRX Crosstrek!

It’s already an AWD blob tank.

Really don’t think sports cars are going anywhere. To the extent Mustang (watching Doug now), Camaro, Challenger, Corvette are sports cars, they’re not going anywhere. GTI and the more expensive Germans will survive. Z probably safe, hot Hondas, hot Fords (Fiesta staying?) - I think we’ll be fine.

As an owner of an STI, I think it’s kind of blobby.

Counterpoint: Subaru has made their name by catering to niche markets. In your vision of the future, sedans will be a niche bodystyle. Subaru will make a killing by focusing their lineup on the Impreza and Legacy and eventually cause sedans become popular again.

Ew. Don’t ever make me think that again.

Everyone bitches about an EVO SUV but they forget that it could be awesome . Hey, Subaru, how about tackling Dakar instead of WRC?

My next car purchase will be to trade in the B8.5 allroad for a Macan S, so I guess I’m okay with it.

The mitsubishi of the past could make it awesome. The mitsubishi of today is going to give us an electric Japanese Equinox. They’re done making cool things for at least a decade or two.

yes, a lowered WRX Crosstrek w/o the body cladding, WRX seats and suspension kit, WRX hood...

I wouldn’t be surprised if STI becomes some occasional limited release as a gussied up WRX. So release new WRX then 2 years later release limited edition STI with 20 extra horsepower and wing; then a year or two later there is a refreshed WRX. When interest starts going down STI name makes an appearance again.
Anyways; I do think Subaru will keep the WRX around.

Ah you’re talking about the STI performance competition edition! They’re only making 500 of those and they’re $75,000

“Help me Subaru Tecnica International you’re my only hope”
I dunno if it’s that bleak, Subaru has been killing it for years by being way ahead of the pack on the crossover boom and now they have a seven seater so they aren’t hurting. With all the domestics exiting the small car market the remaining players who do it well may thrive, I can’t believe Honda will stop selling civics for example.
Because of the boxer engines their crossovers aren’t that tippy and since they are built on car platforms so can easily be lowered
